SENIOR ARCHIVIST - Re-membering black performance
21hrs p/w
£21,000 pro rata
Based at: Middlesex University, Bounds Green Campus
FUTURE HISTORIES is a cultural heritage organisation. Created to maintain
archives of African, Caribbean and Asian performance in the UK, the Black
Performance and Carnival Archive Collection exists to promote access,
education, research and raise awareness of the crucial need to preserve
black British cultural heritage.
Our current project Re-membering black performance in partnership with the
A2A Programme and Middlesex University is an important step towards our
aims. It will re-assemble, organise, catalogue, encode, store for long term
preservation and make accessible the archive collections of two major
theatre organisations, the Black Theatre Forum and Nitro Theatre Company.W
e need an experienced professional archivist, with good communication and
reporting skills, and ideally knowledge of the performing arts sector, to
undertake the following:
* Assist the Project's Creative Director in purchasing and setting up
archival cataloguing software;
* Organise and list the collections in conformity with ISAD(G);
* Index the collections in conformity with ISAAR(CPF): using the NCA
rules for construction of names and the UNESCO Thesaurus for subjects;
* Produce monthly reports on schedule keeping;
* Take lead responsibility for the transfer of the data to the A2A
Central Team.
* Answer enquiries by email, phone, fax and letter with regards to the
tasks accomplished within the project;
* Work closely with all project personnel to achieve the objectives of
this post and the project;
* Represent FUTURE HISTORIES at outside meetings, seminars, working
groups etc within the remit of the role.
