I think that the National Associaton of Phlebotomists are keen to see this role developed (contact - www.phlebotomy.org). As I understand the issue it is not inserting the cannula that is an issue, but how you flush it through once it has been inserted.

In this Trust there is some interest in teaching the phlebotomists IV cannulation as well as phlebotomy to put up drips and insert Venflons etc.Has anyone done this before?Does anyone have any views on this subject?
