Redbridge Museum Service is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and organised
individual to help run the Museum's summer exhibition 'On the Move'. This
children's exhibition on the theme of transport will have lots of
interactive 'sets' such as a boat and a bus, games, dressing up and other
activities.
The job will involve a range of duties:
1. Invigilating the exhibition.
2. Acting as an 'explainer' and encouraging children, families and other
visitors to use the different areas of the exhibition.
3. Running and supervising art activities for children in the exhibition.
4. Planning, undertaking and producing a short evaluation report for the
exhibition and related events programme.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone wanting to gain experience of
working in a community-based museum service. Applicants must be available to
work Tuesdays to Saturdays throughout the summer. It may be possible to
arrange a job share for this post.

for the London Borough of Redbridge, based in Ilford's Central Library. For

Exhibition and Activities Assistant
Redbridge Museum is seeking to appoint an Exhibition and Activities
Assistant for Summer 2003. This post provides an opportunity to get involved
in a community based museum service and assist with invigilation and events.
Successful candidates must be available to work Saturdays.
The summer exhibition is designed for children and is on a transport theme. The display will feature 4 sections - Getting There; Moving Home; Leisure;
and Time Travellers. Within these sections there will be 'sets' including a
railway platform, a bus, a boat, a caravan and a Scout tent. There will be
interactive exhibits such as building a wagon wheel, building a 3D jigsaw
road, operating a crane, finding treasure in the barge and hoisting its
sail, and designing a bus route map. There will be a soft play and an art
area as well as opportunities for dressing up. The section 'Moving Home'
looks at children who originally have come from other countries to live in
Redbridge while 'Time Travellers' looks at sci-fi and technology.
Duties will include:
1. To invigilate the Museum's summer exhibition. Its opening hours will
be Tuesdays - Fridays 10 - 5pm, Saturdays 10 - 4pm
2. To act as an "explainer" for the exhibition and facilitate the use
of children's interactives. This includes the preparation of simple quizzes,
exhibition trails or colouring-in sheets. These should change regularly.
3. Running and supervising an art area for children throughout the
school holidays. The Exhibitions Assistant will work closely with the Museum
Education Officer to deliver these pre-planned activities.
4. To devise appropriate evaluation methods for the exhibition such as
questionnaires and produce a simple report on the findings.
5. To assist with the organisation and delivery of events for adults
and children.
6. To assist with the promotions and marketing of related events and
deal with enquiries.
7. To assist with inputting records on the Museum collections
management database.
8. To assist with the take-down of the exhibition.
9. To perform any other duties commensurate with the job title and
grade which may be deemed appropriate by the Museum Manager.
