on of those basic questions which challenge the memory more than they should.
the only thing i can think of off the top of my head is the extensive work of
Kenneth John Connant over many decades on the motherhouse of Cluny,
culminating in his massive monograph :
_Cluny, Les églises et la maison du chef d'ordre_. Mâcon: 1968.
Minot Kerr has conveniently put a bibliography of Connant's published works on
his website :
http://www.reed.edu/~mkerr/papers/conant.html
(including reviews of the Magnum Opus --not all of Connant's views have been
accepted without question, i believe, though i've certainly not kept up on the
literature.)
Kerr also mentions this work, which i've not seen :
W. Braunfels, _Monasteries of Western Europe: The Architecture of the Orders_.
London: 1972.
and Kerr's 1994 dissertation on the very important Cluniac house of
Paray-le-Monial is certainly worth a serious look :
http://www.reed.edu/~mkerr/papers/thesis/t-list.html
perhaps especially the chapter on "Liturgy and Function" :
http://www.reed.edu/~mkerr/papers/thesis/lit.html
there is a very useful, and quite massive, site devoted to the literature on
Cluny :
http://www.uni-muenster.de/Fruehmittelalter/Projekte/Cluny/BiblClun/Welcome-e.html
almost too much.
others on the list will come up with more general --and probably more
helpful-- recent secondary works, i'm sure.
bonne chance.
