medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear List members,
I am at present researching grants of lands in Ireland made to English
Benedictine monasteries in the wake of the Norman invasion in 1169. While I
am familiar with the Irish material I am less sure of the English part of
the equation and have depended for background on the various articles that I
have found in the volumes of the Victoria County Histories and Knowles and
Hadcock Medieval Religous Houses, England. Some of this material is quite
dated and, while I have access to the Bulletin d'histoire monastique, it is
not always clear how relevant the articles listed there are.
I would be very grateful for any references to general surveys of the
economic life or estate managment procedures of medieval English monasteries
or to specific works on any of the following houses.
Cantebury Cathedral Priory
St Nicholas Priory, Exeter,
Bath Priory,
Glastonbury Abbey
Chester Abbey
Winchester Cathedral Priory
Little Malvern Priory
St Dogmael's Priory
Stogursey Priory
St Bees Priory
Many thanks
