Re People's Network sustainability costs :
I received 6 replies.
One County had costs of £300,000 which are being met by a transfer from
their bookfund (of £2.2 million)
One County had a county-wide PFI bid which would pay for broad band
connectivity across the authority and thus eliminate problems re PN
sustainability, apart from support costs (which they will find) and
replacement (which is still unresolved)
One County had integrated the PN with the authority's Wide Area Network
and maintenance contract so reported no additional costs to pick up, and has
made some small scale staffing additions.
One London Borough reports new funding of £50,000 gained which will cover
their costs (well done!)
Two other London Boroughs are not sure where the money will come from, or
even how much it will be. Leasing was suggested as a possibility.
My conclusion is that these are all very different responses, and reflect
the different opportunities we may have locally. This doesn't really help
those of us for whom local opportunities don't appear to exist. Our
bookfund here is already amongst the lowest, and the County looks like
being hit hard in the next Government spending round, so things look really
bleak at the moment.
Please can anyone reassure me either by being in the same boat, or by
offering another creative solution?!
Thanks all

Subject: People's Network costs
Dear colleagues
I know this is a sensitive subject, but please can you let me know of any
plans you may be developing to mainstream in some part at least, the costs
associated with running, maintaining and developing the Peoples Network. I
have been asked to find out what other authorities are doing about this
difficult one!
Many thanks in anticipation
