medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear All,
some interesting and curious images on a few of the surviving "pilgrims'
badges" from Chartres have piqued my interest in the nature & precise form of
middlevil Processions :

i'm sure that the literature on this Processional Phenomenon must be quite
vast, though it seems to be hidden just beneath the surface of the ground
where i'm now standing.
being much too lazy to do the initial spadework myself, i must ask the list
if, off its Collective Head, it knows of any discussions of
"Processions", either general or specific; liturgical, "ordinal" [i.e., found
in the liturgical books known as "ordinaries"] or "extraordinary."
i would be particularly interested to be turned on to actual depictions of
Processions, the earlier the better --though even the late ones could end up
being Grist for My nearly empty Mill, like this one :

(from late 16th century Louvain.)
Many Thanks to all, in advance.
best from here,
christopher
