Subject: Libraries as a Community Resource: Open Day at
Stockton-on-Tees
Hello All,
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council has been awarded Beacon status for
'Libraries as a Community Resource' in recognition of Stockton Library
Service's innovative and high quality library and information services
provision, and the role it plays in fostering community identity,
promoting community development and developing social inclusion.
As a Beacon council we are undertaking a variety of activities to help
share our good practice and our first Open Day is being held on Wednesday,
2nd October 2002 at The Swallow Hotel, Stockton-on-Tees.
Our aim is to provide a quality learning experience through a series of
interactive workshops with practical examples of how we deliver effective
and responsive community based activities, plus opportunities to exchange
ideas and information in open discussion.
Presented by staff responsible for the delivery of services highlighted by
our Beacon status award, the workshops will cover:
1) Services to Children including Junior & Young Librarian, Young Persons
Selection Team, Stockton
Children's Book of the Year, Successful interaction with schools.
2) Ethnic Services, Asylum Seeker support, Services to Travellers
3) Prison Library Services
We are happy to share our experiences and would welcome your participation
in our Open Day event. To register your interest or for further details,
please contact me.
