I think we should all be grateful to Kathy for giving us a glimpse of this
experiment. I guess many of us would recognise its provenance and will be
excited (or, at the very least, intrigued) by the potential of a seamless
link between a Book Forager "identify your title" tool and (let's face it
...) the real "killer app": finding a copy ....
However, I can sympathise with Kathy's misgivings. It might have been a
bit more reassuring if the "Borrow" button had been called "Find" or "Where
is it?". The implications, for a creaking ILL system, of a "Borrow" button
alongside a bibliographic record for "Baby Father 3" (the first hit on my
search ... don't ask ....) don't bear thinking about ... and October 15th
isn't that far away ....
... but then, this is exactly what beta versions are about and I'm sure the
Talis users involved will pick up these issues.
If, as I profoundly hope, the long-term intention is to develop a
cross-platform service, the rest of us will be delighted to offer our advice
at a later stage.
Great start, though .... and 100% People's Network ... congratulations to
all concerned ....
