Coastal walk and Ferry trip - Start Chichester Metro Station 10 am -
Finish Monkseaton Metro Station - about seven miles walking
urban and
beachfront along the cold North Sea with the wind coming straight
in from
Siberia so wrap up warm but the scenery and seabirds are worth it.
We will
pause on route in at least one pub. Duration about four hours. It
takes
about half an hour by Metro from central Newcastle or Jesmond to
Chichester and the same to get back to Newcastle from
Monkseaton. Get a
day rover ticket £3 which covers all metro and ferry fares but there
will
be a bus fare from Chichester Metro to Souter Point as well. We
will walk
from one lighthouse (Souter Point) to another (St Mary's Island)
along the
coast and beaches. There are bail-out points en route for those
who want
to do just part of this e.g. from South Shields Metro half way and
Tynemouth Metro two thirds of the way. We can eat Fish and
Chips on the
Fish Quay but there are other options for grabbing a snack on the
way.
