Subject: THE ACTION PLAN FOR LABOUR MARKET STATISTICS - Monday 9th
Decemb er
Meeting at the Royal Statistical Society
Barry Werner Director of ONS's Labour Market Division - will speak about
the actions to be taken following two recent strategic quality reviews of
labour market statistics. These reviews - of the Framework for LMS and of
the Labour Force Survey - covered a wide range of issues relating to
statistics of employment, unemployment, potential labour supply and job
vacancies. Details of the Reviews are to be found on the National Statistics
website at this address.

The Review of the Framework for Labour Market Statistics was published on
5th August. The Action Plan was released on 5th November. It is
expected
that the Action plan will be an important milestone on the road to restoring
and retaining the public confidence in the UK's labour market statistics
which was lost during the 1980s.
Discussant: David Webster, Glasgow City Housing.
