The letter and form are sent to the individual where a problem has been
identified on the Health Dec.
We dont state a particular fee but on the whole pay what is invoiced. HAving
said that we none too chuffed at a bill for £110 for the completion of the
peadr form! We have been charged between £0 and £110 for the completion of
the form. One GP said he had to charge us so much as otherwise there was an
issue with the Competitions Act ?! I wasnt aware that there were more than 1
GP for the individuals to gain a GP report from. Bizarre.
We are happy to pay the BMA rates, although are happier to be classed as
Local Authority as obviously the government funding for the educational
institutes is not good and getting worse.
The quality of the completion of the forms varies. It is not unknown that
the GPs sign that people have not had mental health problems despite the
client identifying that their GP has prescribed medication and referred to
counselling etc. We have to write back to the GPs with a letter explaining
the discrepancies and have been known to get details such as the person
being treated for repeated episodes of mental health problems with self harm
incidents.
I havent considered the number of GPs doing this, and cannt easily acces
this info. It is about 3 GPs in the area.
