Please note:
'...within Gwent Healthcare Trust there has been developed an internal
translation service.Although there are one or two problems with the service
on the whole there are good training, review and feedback processes for both
users and staff.The person who co-ordinates the service is Florinda Hall and
she can be contacted on via The Royal Gwent switch board on 01633 234234.
There is also some use of language line which is also evaluated by Florinda
Hall.

Also from members:
* In Cardiff, we have developed a service in which the local authority
interview and appoint interpreters, who can then be accessed by local
authority workers and health professionals. This is currently restricted to
people working with asylum seekers.
* The interpreters booked by the professional requesting interpreting
assistance, and the interpreters are then paid as self-employed for the
hourly work that they do by either the local authority or the Local Health
Group.
* Whilst there are some problems with this system, it works quite well
overall.
* I have written an outline on the core requirements of an
interpretation service if anyone is interested.

Cardiff area being carried out by an experienced firm of consultants
