Does anyone know - or could point me in the direction - of literature on
the need for and advantages of (or not) ethnic matching of interviewer and
informant in quantitative surveys? I am specifically looking for measures
of impact in terms of response rates and data quality.
Language matching in instances where the informant does not speak English
is a practical neccessity to ensure that all sections of the minority
populations are covered in the survey. Altho I have heard that ethnic
matching is also recommended by some(irrespective of the language of
interview - i.e incl if interview is conducted in English) , I have not
seen any evaluation of the impact of this on survey quality.
