I am writing to inform you that the BME-Wales-Health-Social-Care mailbase
for academic and community health Researchers and practitioners in Wales who
are conducting research in Health (including Mental Health) and Social Care
provision of Black and Ethnic Minority Groups has been established on
Jiscmail.ac.uk. I am writing to invite you to become a member.
The aim of the listserv is to promote collaborative research and the
dissemination of findings from academic and community health and social care
projects and initiatives, as well as fostering the exchange of information
re. local meetings, seminars, conferences etc of mutual interest. As a
member, you will be able to send messages directly to the membership and
receive information quickly. PLEASE NOTE THAT ALTHOUGH THE FOCUS IS ON
WALES,INFORMATION ON WHAT IS HAPPENING AROUND THE UK IS CRUCIAL.
Postings will begin later this week and the expected number of emails coming
to your in-box should not normally exceed five per week. Please note that
your details of membership will not be available to the public. The
listserv is a public forum, expected levels of professionalism are expected,
and all are invited to become members. Further information will soon be
sent.
Background
The Welsh Assembly Government is currently funding a number of projects and
organisations seeking to find ways of improving the quality of access to
information and appropriate treatment in mental health and social care to
Black and minority ethnic groups in Wales. These initiatives are currently
being developed at a number of universities - including University of
Glamorgan and Cardiff University - as well as in community organisations and
statutory health and social care organisations. There is a need to develop
a framework that will being together these various activities. There is an
opportunity to create a simple way to converse and exchange information
quickly. The aim of establishing this listserv is to provide an electronic
network in Wales for those engaged in health and social research relating to
Black and Ethnic minorities.
The majority of messages will comprise progress reports of existing
projects; findings of Evidence-based research; feedback re. key government
policies and strategies; as well as listings of events, conferences, and
seminars. It will also comprise messages taken from other listservs
include yours!
The expected membership will, on the main, comprise academic and community
researchers, practitioners, and activists. There should also be members
from local organisations, health authorities and councils, and interested
members of the public. I encourage you to join,or at least keep this new
list in mind!
