Subject: UKOLUG Meetings for 2002
Dear All
Apologies for cross posting
There are still places left on the forthcoming one day meetings
organised by the UK Online User Group
Making your website more popular February 26 at Aston
University
- run by Phil Bradley
Creating a website should only be regarded as the very first step in
establishing a presence on the Internet. This seminar will cover ways
in which you can effectively promote your website, increase the number
of visitors, add interaction to your site and make it an effective
"member of staff". Although the course will not be hands-on, delegates
should have some understanding of the Internet, and preferably be
involved in their organisation's site.
Business information : resource management strategies 20
March in London
- run by Karen Blakeman
Desktop access to the Internet is becoming commonplace, with the
result that many end users have direct access to a wide range of
resources of variable quality. Directing users to more reliable
sources -- and managing this access -- presents both a challenge and
an opportunity to the information professional. This workshop provides
a step-by-step guide to setting up a central resource management
strategy. It includes identifying patterns of usage within the
organisation, how to select appropriate resources, managing and
marketing those resources internally.
Chemical Information 18 April at Leeds
- run by Helen Schofield
Since the early days of computers, developers of chemical information
systems have exploited the technology of the day to the full, enabling
chemists to search information sources using their natural language -
the chemical structure and reaction. The result is that today
chemistry probably has a larger range of information search tools
available with greater functionality than any other subject area.
Themes for this meeting will include: a comparison of chemical
information systems available in academia and industry; an exploration
of education and training needs in both environments; problems
associated with integration of systems; the transition from searching
by intermediaries to end-users. There will be a panel discussion,
where users and vendors will be able to present their views on issues
raised.
