I would echo Peter's plea for some feedback here. I have already been
'cleared' through the Criminal Records system on behalf of an organisation
that I work with in a voluntary capacity, as have my partners. But to our
knowledge we have no way of verifying this to potential employers as
freelancers other than our 'word'.
It is obviously early days here and the system is fraught with gremlins. I
know that some small and independent museums did not realise that they had
to register (and therefore pay) to make use of the CRB service. This has
caused concern to people I have spoken to.
I will take this up with my voluntary employer and if I receive relevant
feedback I will post it to the list.

Dear All
As a Borough Council funded museum (and based on my experience of
working with other such organisations) we use the same C.R.S. as
everybody else, which at the moment has lead to incredible though
understandable delays. We do not have another system that can provide
the relevant "clearance" other than honest on the form and at the
interview!. I would appreciate a way of verifying existing checks, as
for example four of the freelancers here have had the check from other
organisations / services, which as far as I can make out "not
transferable".
