Job description
Redbridge Museum has obtained funding from the Learning and Skills Council
and now requires a part-time Family Learning Worker to manage its "Family
Fun Saturdays" scheme.
Responsible for the management of the scheme together with the Museum
Education Officer, the worker will develop and run the Family Fun Saturdays,
be responsible for promotion, networking and for consultation with users and
local agencies. The post-holder will also be responsible for session plans,
learning assessments and monitoring and evaluation of the scheme. Once the
scheme is established, the Family Learning Worker will be responsible for
developing a Family Learning Pack for use in the Museum and at home.
The Family Fun Saturdays will be taking place every second Saturday from
October through until July 2003. The scheme is being targeted at families in
need, to families in deprived areas of the borough and families with fathers
as primary carers. The scheme will have a drop-in facility for borough
families, but it is intended that the target families will attend on a
regular basis.
The primary aim of the scheme is to encourage and develop family learning,
supplemented by a programme of parent support workshops which will cover
parenting skills, literacy, computer skills and health and childcare issues.
Family activities will include art, craft, storytelling, performances and
trips out to other museums and local venues. Sessions will be supported by a
crèche for target families. It will be the role of the Family Learning
Worker to book and supervise freelancers and speakers, to manage these
events and to develop a negotiated curriculum with regular participants for
2003.
Redbridge Museum is looking for an enthusiastic individual, familiar with
family work and who is able to work within the requirements of further
education assessment procedures
