Conference 2002 will show how museums and galleries can make the difference
to learning for a wide range of audiences. Keynote speakers are drawn from
across Scotland, the rest of the United Kingdom and the USA, and the
programme will highlight examples of current best practice, explore the
practicalities of funding and examine the potential for developing learning
programmes and resources through ICT.
2002 marks an important year for museums and galleries across Scotland. The
Scottish Museums Council’s National Audit will be launched in summer 2002
and in Glasgow, a major grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund has enabled
Glasgow Cultural and Leisure services to embark on a complete redevelopment
of Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery. The Scottish Executive’s National
Debate on Education will also place learning at the top of the national
agenda in 2002. This is an exciting time for GEM to be holding a national
conference on museum education in Scotland, and we look forward to welcoming
delegates in September.
