1. INTERACTIVE WHITEBOARDS WORKSHOP

2. THE PEDAGOGICAL RESEARCH FUND for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies
CALL FOR PROPOSALS - deadline 15 November 2002
INTRODUCTION
The Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies has funds to support a Pedagogical Research Fund for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies in Higher Education. The project is managed at CILT by the CILT/Subject Centre Higher Education Information Officer. UK Higher Education Institutions are eligible to apply for up to a maximum of £4000 to support a small-scale project to commence 1 January 2003 and ending on 31 December
2003. Projects are invited on one or more of the following key themes related to teaching and learning:
- diversity of student population/learner characteristics;
- pedagogy/methodology;
- multi/interdisciplinarity;
- recruitment and retention;
- policy development;
- staff development and teacher training.

3. POSTGRADUATE INFORMATION DAY Tuesday 26 November 2002
(10:30 - 3:30)CILT, Covent Garden, London
This free event for postgraduate students in languages and linguistics aims to bring students together to discuss issues of mutual concern: find out about resources available for locating research, discover real and virtual networks and how to effectively use them, discuss the challenges of juggling life, work and a PhD and look at methods for collecting and analyzing data.
The event is held at the Centre for Information on Language Teaching and Research which houses a large collection of material relating to the teaching and learning of languages including an extensive periodicals and methodology section - the day will include a tour of the resources library.
