I'm forwarding this message from Angela Chambers
(Limerick), since these two matters may well interest many
AFLS members. Please reply to her and/or Jean E Conacher.

Dear Colleagues,
As participants in the Bristol conference on corpora in
French, you may be able to help me with the query below
from a colleague here in Limerick. (Please let me know as
well as Jean, if you have any information).
You may also be interested to know that EUROCALL 2003 is
being held here from 3-6 September 2003. The Call for
Papers is attached. If by any chance you are interested in
offering a pre-conference workshop which requires a
computer lab with concordancing software, please contact me
well in advance so that a suitable lab can be reserved for
you. Regards

Dear Angela,
I wonder if you can help me out. I am looking for a listing
(preferably corpus-based) of the most frequently used words
in the French language (at least the top 100, but
preferably more). In an ideal world this would be a listing
based on a spoken corpus, but a written one would do! The
listing is to use as a comparison with data we
(Universities of Stirling & Besançon and Scottish CILT)
have collected on the SCOTLANG Telephone Partnership
Project (student conversations between native and
non-native speakers of French/English), to see whether
frequency and range of vocabulary in English and French is
an avenue which the research group wants to go down. I said
I would ask around, given Limerick's ongoing work using
corpora (I've already spoken to Fiona Farr re. spoken
corpora/frequency lists in English). thanks in advance best
wishes Jean
