Dear All
Apologies for cross posting

The UK Online User Group (UKOLUG) is pleased to announce two
one day courses to be run in July.
INTRODUCTION TO REFERENCE MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE
Tuesday 2nd July 2002: John Rylands Library, University of Manchester
This one day workshop seeks to highlight the most popular
bibliographic tools on the market and how they can be used effectively
within the information world. Many of the packages now offer direct
connectivity to Internet databases and one step bibliographies in
different styles, dependant upon your own requirements. Emphasis will
be given to how packages handle posting of reference collections on
the web and how these can be shared, together with importing
references from the increasing number of online resources. There will
be an opportunity to explore the various packages highlighted.
RAISE THE PROFILE OF YOUR INFORMATION SERVICE
Tuesday 23rd July 2002: Novartis Foundation, London
Information is the stock-in-trade of the information professional.
Many sources of free and commercial information are available to the
LIS professional, many of which are untapped and can be put to novel
or unanticipated uses. The LIS needs to be at the heart of its
organisation to demonstrate relevance and value-for-money. This course
is centered around raising the LIS profile by using easily available
desktop tools to produce good quality in-house publications
(newsletters, bulletins, current awareness lists etc.) to maintain the
LIS at the forefront of organisational consciousness and activity.
Targeting markets, acquiring content, style and layout, editing
issues, offline and online dissemination issues will all be covered.
Examples of good practice will also be discussed. In addition, other
approaches to raising the LIS profile within the organisation will
also be addressed.
