Making respirators safe is fairly straightforward. Hampshire Museums
Service used a local company registered for the disposal of toxic waste.
We managed to get it done for free. Following the removal of the asbestos
material in the filters, the interior of the canister was sprayed with a
clear cellulose paint. But the key procedure was then to have the
canisters checked by the Hampshire Scientific Service to verify that no
harmful materials remained. This is your 'Health and Safety' certification
and is the costly part.
