Dear John,
Greetings from Al-Ain. When I read your posting on croup I turned to my
favourite search engine "Sumsearch" @
http://sumsearch.uthscsa.edu/searchform45.htm
and used the search terms "mist AND croup" selecting treatment option and
this is what Sumsearch came up with.
Bland aerosol administration – AARC clinical practice guidelines.

Klassen TP. Croup. A current perspective. Pediatr Clin North Am
1999;46:1167-78.
According to this review there is “No evidence supports the effectiveness of
mist therapy, and physicians are in need of a randomized, controlled trial
for this”.

the outpatient management of croup. Pediatr Emerg Care 1996;12:156-9
Ledwith CA, Shea LM, Mauro RD. Safety and efficacy of nebulized racemic
epinephrine in conjunction with oral dexamethasone and mist in the
outpatient treatment of croup. Ann Emerg Med 1995;25:331-7
I hope this is of some relevance to your posting. May be some one is already
running a clinical trial on this!
Cheers & regards and have a wonderful week end (we have just commenced a
brand new week here!)
(Conflict of interest - apart from frequently using the programme I have no
other interests in Sumsearch)
