No, I haven't -- sounds interesting. What I do have is the big honkin'
Agrippa compilation and lord, is that slow going to get through. (Though
it also has its share of pleasant surprises: Hey, optics! Soundproofing
with asbestos! Wait...the Greeks thought frog bladders could do *what*?)
But I'll have to look the Kieckhefer up...probably also should check out
anything available on Albertus Magnus at some point. It does only seem
natural that priestly ritual and magic should have gotten conflated
sometimes in people's thinking, and that clerics who for whatever reason
weren't happy with their lot might play upon that association...
And I've heard good things about the Montaillou book before, so I should
check that out. I think the Peters book may have been one of the ones
I've read, but I'll check on that. Thanks for all the suggestions to all
who've responded so far -- I'll take 'em if you've got 'em!
