medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
The Catholic Encyclopaedia of 1914 (a tremendous
source for obscure facts) lists a Danish St. Margaret
in it's article on the mediaeval diocese of Roskilde.
The relevant 'snip' is:
The Benedictine (afterwards Cistercian) nunnery of St.
Mary at Roskilde contained the body of St. Margaret of
Oeleshove (Olsemagle) near Kjoege, who was beatified
in 1176.
That date of 1176 is rather close to the previously
mentioned year of death of Margaret of Roskilde
(1177)....so some confusion obviously exists here. My
suspicion is that the above needs a touch of Lot's
wife, but it may throw a little extra illumination on
the topic.
Or darken it irrevocably.
Cheers!
Rob
