Events A SPRIG Seminar to be held at UMIST, 1 May 2001
What is the seminar about?
This Sprig Seminar will deal with a variety of issues
relating to information and major sports events.
Aims
To draw lessons from previous events, in particular the
Sydney 2000 Olympics, and to look forward to the 2002
Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
Who should attend?
This seminar will be relevant to librarians, information
specialists, archivists and local authority officers
involved in events planning. It will also be of interest to
academics and researchers interested in various aspects of
major sports events, leisure consultants who provide advice
about planning sports events, sports journalists and media
representatives.
How much does it cost?
The fee is 75 for Sprig members and 95 for non-members.
The fee covers attendance, a hot lunch, refreshments and a
copy of the Seminar proceedings when they are published.
Where is the Seminar being held?
The Seminar is at the Manchester Conference Centre at
UMIST. It is a few minutes walk from Piccadilly Railway
Station in the centre of Manchester.

process in the delivery of the Games. Kristine is
responsible for the publication of the post games report
which she will discuss.

2.00 Manchester 2002 - preparations for the Commonwealth

What is Sprig?
Sprig is an organisation which promotes information sources
in leisure, tourism and sport. It has a number of aims
*To act as a special interest group for those involved in
disseminating and managing information in leisure, tourism
and sport.
*To disseminate information to users with an interest in
leisure, tourism and sport.
*To lobby information providers (such as government
organisations, publishers and specialist libraries) in
leisure, tourism and sport for better coordination in
provision and to identify gaps in that provision.
*To improve awareness of leisure, tourism and sport
information sources.
