NATIONAL PERINATAL EPIDEMIOLOGY UNIT
INIS (International Neonatal Immunotherapy Study)
INIS is a multicentre, randomised controlled trial funded by the Medical
Research Council which aims to try to improve the treatment for babies
who have serious infections. Babies with infections who are already
receiving antibiotics will be randomised to receive either IVIG
(Intravenous Immunoglobin) or matching placebo.
Applications are invited for two full time posts: Clinical Research
Fellow, Grade E71 £24,070-£35,080 (ref B2/01/001) and Trial
Administrator, Academic-related research scale 1B £16,775 - £21,435 (ref
B2/01/002)
The Clinical Research Fellow will be the clinical contact for the
collaborating centres and will visit centres to promote the trial and
encourage recruitment so that the agreed sample size is reached within
the specified time period. Candidates should have a clinical background
and be appointable at clinical research fellow level, with excellent
communication skills and experience of giving presentations. They must
be willing to travel within the UK and internationally at regular
intervals, and be prepared to be a member of a 24-hour on call team to
give advice to participating centres. Evidence of an interest in
critical appraisal and in acquiring new knowledge of research methods is
also an essential requirement for this post. The position is full time
for 23 months, with a possibility of extension. For an informal

The Trial Administrator will be responsible for overseeing the
day-to-day running of the study, liaising with participating centres
throughout the UK and overseas, and planning, maintaining and
implementing administrative services for the study. Candidates should
have excellent communication skills and experience of working on a trial
or in medical research. Experience of word processing, particularly
Microsoft Word, Excel, data management and data entry are also essential
requirements for this post. As the position may involve travel to
participating centres to make presentations, experience of public
speaking and willingness to travel are desirable. The position is full
time for 17 months, with a possibility of extension. For an informal
