It seems possible that many of the people in this newsgroup won't yet
realise that the following book was published towards the end of last
year.
THE TECHNIQUES OF MODERN STRUCTURAL GEOLOGY Volume 3:
Applications of continuum mechanics in structural geology
-- by John G. Ramsay and Richard J. Lisle --
Academic Press 2000: ISBN 0-12-576923-7
(softback, same size and style as Vols 1 & 2 by Ramsay & Huber)
I haven't personally come across any advertising by the publisher, and so
I'm just telling you all it's out, because somebody should! (I haven't got a
cut, honest.) I'm sure that most of you own copies of Ramsay & Huber
(Vols 1 & 2), and so will want to complete the set. This 3rd volume is
particularly suitable for people doing research in structure, tectonics or
geophysics, and wanting to delve a bit further into analysis and
modelling of stress and strain, including basics on finite element
analysis. It comes with a CD containing a number of computer programs.
So congratulations to John for completing his long-promised trio, and to
Richard for his part in this 3rd volume.
And please excuse me if I'm telling you what you already know, but it
isn't every day that a new text book on structural geology is published,
so some cause for celebration.
Best (New Year) wishes to everyone, Sue
