Please note that there are three related but distinct calls for papers
in this one message. To help you identify them I have inserted a line of
***** between pairs of CFPs. I have also changed the subject line for
similar reasons.
Again, all enquiries to Lorna Uden <[log in to unmask]> please.

Call for papers: Activity Theory for learning
Special issue of International Journal of Continuing Engineering
Education And Life-Long Learning (IJCEELL). Published by Inderscience
Press.
Activity theory (AT) is a philosophical framework for studying different
forms of human activities as development processes--both individual and
social levels interlinked at the same time. Two basic ideas animate
activity theory: (1) the human mind emerges, exists and can only be
understood within the context of human interaction with the world; and
(2) this interaction, activity, is socially and culturally determined.
Notions of activity theory have been subsequently followed up in the
current research of social-cultural psychology. In addition, activity
theory has been introduced to the field of constructivist learning and
instructional web training.
The purpose of this special issue is to bring diverse perspectives on
the use of activity theory for designing learning and instruction to a
wide audience. It will provide a snapshot of current activity theory
research in this area.
We invite submissions applying activity theory in the following areas:
The design of constructivist learning
The design of computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL)
The use of web-based training or learning
Evaluation of technology-based learning
Designing effective interface for technology learning
The papers are not restricted to the above topics. Papers related to
learning and technology in learning using activity theory would be
welcome. All papers will be refereed. Submission should be between
10-15 pages in length.
Important dates
Deadline for papers: Friday, 30thNovember, 2001
Review results: Thursday, 31st January, 2002
Deadlines for final papers : Wednesday, 1st May, 2002
Publication: End of the year
Guidelines for submission of papers can also be found at

Special issue of International Journal of Human Resources Development
And Management (IJHRDM).
Activity Theory for Organizational Development and Management.
Activity theory (AT) is a philosophical framework for studying different
forms of human activities as development processes--both individual and
social levels interlinked at the same time. It is a powerful theory of
social action. The concept of activity is a potentially useful way to
structure organisational context. The research community in this area
is rapidly expanding. The purpose of this special issue is to bring to
a wider audience the theoretical and practical advantages offered by
activity theory to the study of work and organizations.
We invite submissions applying activity theory in the following areas:
Human computer interaction
Information system development
Work, technology and organization
Computer supported collaborative work (CSCW)
New forms of work and learning
Innovations and organisation of research work
Requirements engineering
Workplace learning and transfer
Knowledge management, organisation and learning
The papers are not restricted to the above topics. All papers will be
refereed. Submission should be
between 10-15 pages in length.

Special issue of
International Journal of Computer Applications Technology (IJCAT).
Designing Technology Supported Learning
Computer technology, including the World Wide Web has been increasingly
used to support teaching and learning. The design and development of
technology-based learning is different from traditional classroom
learning. This special issue of IJCAT focuses on the application of
learning theories, software engineering, hypermedia and interface design
principles to the development, testing and use of information technology
(IT) to improve the learning process. Topics of interest my focus on,
but are not restricted to:
* Innovative methods for designing and developing technology-based
learning and teaching;
* Hypermedia and multimedia for learning and instruction;
* Web-based instruction and learning;
* Personalisation of learning environments;
* Interface design or technology-based learning;
* Developing on-line learning;
* Changing pedagogy for changing technology;
* Learning objects and reuse.
All papers will be refereed. Submission should be between 10-15 pages
in length.
