Dear Student,
There is a rumor going around that
spelling counts on your grade.
It is unclear to me where such rumors
come from.
JUST READ THE ASSIGNMENT!
The relevant part of the assignment
reads,

Nota bene [OBS!]
Please note two important issues in applying the seven criteria to this course:
6) Language is a special situation in this course. You are attempting
an important educational experience by preparing a research document
in a foreign language. Do your best.
We will not deduct points for grammar or spelling mistakes in
English. The rhetorical construction of your project must be clear
and articulate.
7) Proper use of sources and references means citations and reference
lists in the author-year style, also known as Harvard style. To
receive a grade on this examination, sources and references must be
handled properly with a complete, correct, and coherent reference
list.
You will be given a guidebook on style and writing. We will go over
these issues in class and we will use exercises and assignments to
master them.
The teaching assistants, and I are always ready to answer questions
on bibliographic style. You must handle references properly to pass.

The part of language that
counts on your grade is rhetoric,
not spelling.
A lot of rumors are avoided when
people simply read what has been
sent out.
The student population of NMH is
sometimes a hot bed of rumor and
silly ideas. This is one of them.
Why is this silly ? It's silly because
we've explained it in class, and we've
passed it out on paper in class and
we've posted it twice to the Org-L
List.
If you have questions about anything
to do with grades, ask your teaching
assistant or ask me. Your fellow
students have been here exactly as
long as you have, and no matter how
intelligent they may be, they are not
a source of authoritative information
on grades.
To answer another question, we prefer
that you use American English spelling
and grammar.
Best regards,
Ken
