*** E-Book Announcement ***
Dear Colleagues,
*** Computational Global Optimization in Nonlinear Systems — An Interactive
Tutorial ***
by János D. Pintér
has been published by Lionheart Publishing (Atlanta, GA, USA;
http://www.lionhrtpub.com).
This 60-page book presents a concise, practical introduction to models and
algorithms that enable the analysis and solution of nonlinear decision
problems in the presence of multiple optima. Such problems arise in many
areas of engineering, economics and sciences. The book places a special
emphasis upon computational aspects. First, a brief review of frequently
used global optimization models and methods is provided, then software
development and performance testing issues are highlighted. This is
followed by a discussion of several illustrative examples which are based
on real-world applications. The LGO integrated modeling and solver system
is introduced and used to solve these examples. The corresponding
demonstration program files are also made available. A list of references
(that mainly consists of recent books and Web sites) is also included.
Audience: engineers, economists, and scientists - including students - who
need a short, practical (and inexpensive) introduction to the practice of
global optimization.
About the author: János D. Pintér, Ph.D., D.Sc. is a research scientist and
president of Pintér Consulting Services, Inc. as well
as adjunct professor at Dalhousie University, both in Halifax, NS, Canada.
Dr. Pintér is also author of 'Global Optimization in
Action' (Kluwer Academic Publishers, 1996), recipient of the 2000 INFORMS
Computing Society Prize for Research Excellence, and developer of the
professional LGO software for global/nonlinear optimization.
The e-book and all demonstration programs are directly downloadable from
the Publisher's E-bookstore Web site
http://www.lionhrtpub.com/books/globaloptimization.html. Hard copy + disk
format is also available.
A more detailed news release by the Publisher (in MS Word doc file format)
is available upon request.
