Hello,
Have you tried BIG, the British Interactive Group? Their discussion list
"BIG-chat" (details on how to join at the association website:
http://www.big.uk.com) might be a way of getting in touch with people who
have booked, and could suggest ways of finding, specialist science shows
that are available for museums, school groups, events etc. Some BIG-members
operate science show consultancies, for example "Dr Bunhead", "Gary the
Musical Clown", "Maths in a Suitcase" etc.
Best wishes,
Paul Henningsson

I am aware that junior schools sometimes hire in specialists such as
re-enactors, small theatre companies and scientists to do special events.
I've had no difficulty hiring historical characters because they tend to
get in touch with and advertise themselves to museums. However, how does
one get access to the other sorts of people that sell their services to
schools? In my past life as a teacher I remember being visited by the
"Fossil man" and a planetarium- does anyone know how I can contact such
people? I am quite keen for them to be fairly local (Wiltshire and
surrounding counties) and to offer workshops or events linked to the
science or technology curriculum. If you can help or advise, please contact
