(I will be leaving Brent at the end of June to take up the post of Head of
Learning at the National Portrait Gallery. My job here will be going into
the Guardian on Monday and into May's Museums Journal)
Education, Arts and Libraries
Head of Museum, Archive and Arts
Up to £33,736
Brent is improving across the board, and our museum, archive and arts
services are no exception. The Grange Museum of Community History, for
example, has a national reputation for taking an inclusive approach to
celebrating the Borough's diverse communities, and we have just introduced
a ground-breaking ICT contract for library, museum and archive services.
But we are not complacent, and want to do even better. We have ambitious
plans to re-locate the museum, have just been awarded HLF funding to
improve our archive services, and are in the early stages of developing a
borough wide cultural strategy.
As Head of Museum, Archive and Arts, you will have overall responsibility
for these initiatives, as well as for managing quality service delivery
through an effective and enthusiastic staff team. You will be a member of
the high calibre Libraries and Lifelong Learning management team, and, as a
senior officer within Education, Arts and Libraries, will contribute to the
wider management of the department.
We are looking for leadership skills developed from an impressive track
record in a relevant discipline, as well as for imagination, energy, and
vision. You must have a strong commitment to equalities and understand the
benefits and challenges of working in a culturally diverse community.
For an informal discussion, please contact Karen Tyerman, Assistant
Director, Libraries and Lifelong Learning, on 020 8937 3146, or the current
postholder, Stephen Allen, on 020 8937 3600.
