Dear All
We are planning some activities for children looking at the process
of fossilisation and geological excavation.
A colleague mentioned that he had seen a particularly interesting
activity at a museum in the States which consisted of children being
given an opportunity to uncover fossils (real or replica?) out of
some kind of artificial matrix. He thought it was based on some kind
of mixture of waxy material? The idea being that children could
discover the fossil by chipping away in a realistic way, but that the
fossils could then be re-embedded somehow for the other visitors to
then do the same thing later.
Does this ring any bells with anyone? What kind of material would it
have been to allow for this reversible process of embedding and
revealing?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
