In my role as the newly appointed Community Liaison Officer working at The
Museum in Docklands, London, one of my initial tasks is to propose for
selection, candidates to whom we can outsource the production of education
packs to. We currently have no education staff and curators/archivist are
busy getting the new galleries ready for next year's opening, so finding an
external agent who can fulfil our needs is of upmost importance. Finance
for the packs is being negotiated from sponsors.
I am particularly interested in researching the names of companies or
individuals who would fulfil (ideally) both textual and design needs of the
pack. We have not decided on a target audience but will initially look at
Key Stages 1 and 2 with the possibility of GCSE level in particular
subjects. Packs would focus on a selection of our 12 proposed galleries
which follow a chronological study of the Docklands, the port and its people
from A.D. 42 to the present day. Previous knowledge of the area is not
imperative as liaison with very education friendly curators, an archivist
and object managers would be available.
My request is therefore for anyone who feels they may be able to provide
their services, or for anyone who could recommend anybody. I would be very
interested in receiving examples of work to look over. I have already
consulted the GEM freelance list and shall be following up some leads from
that.
