I'm not absolutely positive it was channel 4 but I
believe this kind of scheduling and rescheduling of
ideas is dangerous and should be confronted whenever
it occurs regardless of the fact that it occurs
(perhaps) everywhere.
If my memory serves me at all and it was Channel 4
this is particularly significant as Channel 4 prides
itself on being a risk taking channel. It has a record
of showing banned materials and of holding debates on
censorship which all too often boringly revolve around
the same films usually straw dogs, clockwork orange,
death wish two and evil dead, maybe Last Tango in
Paris and empire of the senses get a look in. It seems
to me symptomatic of English liberalism that whenever
the debate of censorship comes into the public eye it
is almost always focussed on sex and violence and
rarely on political censorship (I know that they are
intermingled but for the sake of argument...)
Best Wishes
John
