Dear Colleagues
I am interested in hospital practices or policies (whether formally
written or not) on standardisation of POCT equipment, particularly
blood gas analysers, and would be very grateful for any feedback .
If colleagues reply to me personally, I will post a summary on the
mailbase.
My main questions are:
1. Does your Trust standardise POCT equipment?
2. Does Pathology have a lead or sole role in evaluating options,
and to what extent are users' views taken into account?
3. Are you planning to/do you replace equipment (eg blood gas
analysers or glucose meters) all at once, or on a rolling basis?
4. Do you allow any subsequent flexibility once a particular
supplier has been decided upon (ie "sole" supplier or "preferred"
supplier)?
5. Do you have a policy/system in place which formally involves
pathology at every stage of the planning process for implementing
POCT? If so, how well does it work in practice?
If you have any comments on related issues which I have not
included above, then please include them!
Thanks in advance.
Joan Pearson
