NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY
Access Development Officer circa £20,000
Education and access is central to the work of the National Portrait Gallery
and to its formal and informal learning programmes. Access is at the core
of the Gallery’s concerns, enabling visitors of all ages to enjoy a
stimulating and hands-on approach to understanding the collections. As an
important cultural resource, the Gallery wants to be increasingly socially
inclusive in its outlook.
The Gallery has received funding from the John Ellerman Foundation to
develop an access programme and to increase provision for a range of
identified audiences. To do this we seek a dedicated Access Development
Officer to implement a programme of new activities, building upon existing
access services. The Access Development Officer’s role will be to design,
implement and monitor a programme of initiatives and to work across the
breadth of the organisation, coordinating activities and providing advice
and support for staff and volunteers. The key beneficiaries of the new
access programme will be visitors with physical and learning disabilities
across the age range.
This post is full-time, initially for a 12 month period. Alternatively, the
Gallery would consider part-time work over a more extended period. The
Gallery will be identifying funding to extend this period.
