Assistant Interpretation Officer
We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Interpretation Officer to assist in the development and delivery of the Interpretation Unit,s (and cross-departmental) projects and programmes. This is a training post, providing a wide range of experiences over its twelve-month period, particularly suiting a new member of the profession.
Key Tasks
· To assist in the researching, generating and delivering of an annual programme of events for schools, teachers and other educational groups.
· To evaluate educational and public events programmes.
· To contribute to the development and delivery of public events programmes.
· To organise, deliver and evaluate regular programmes of events for families and other target audiences.
· To assist in the researching, generating and drafting of educational materials.
· To contribute, as required, to cross-departmental project teams e.g. exhibition or publication projects.
· To contribute to Museum project teams on gallery redevelopment and publications.
· To lead small development projects, under supervision.
· To perform additional weekend, evening and holiday duties, in order to deliver events.
· Such other duties which may be required relevant to the grade and within the work of the unit.
Contract: 12 months (non-renewable)
Salary: £17,001 ) £19,521 per annum inclusive (Pay review pending)
Essential Requirements
· Relevant degree or other appropriate higher education qualification.
· Awareness of different approaches to museum interpretation.
· Understanding of the interests and requirements of different museum visitors.
· Knowledge of current educational developments, including the National Curriculum.
· Good communication skills.
· Ability to work well within a team.
· Ability to use initiative.
· Interest in the aims of the Museum.
· Energy and enthusiasmDesirable Requirements
· A teaching qualification.
· Qualification in Museum Studies or Museum Education.
· Experience of museum work.
· Recent teaching experience.
