Dear GEM list members
Those who have sent messages to the GEM list recently may, like myself and
Kate Osborne, have received a message by return that makes you think that
your message has not been delivered due to a duplicate already being on the
system, or another equally confusing reason.
I have contacted Roland Jackson and the help line of the list about this
very annoying response.
Fear not! Your message has actually been sent and you can ignore the reply.
It is caused by another member of the list (yes, it could be YOU) who has
set an auto-response while they are out of the office and not suspended
their membership of the GEM list at the same time.
Those of you who are able to set auto responses please take note - this is
the tiresome effect that you can have on other members of the list, not to
mention the increased load you place on the system.
It is easy to suspend membership of the list - and just as easy to resume.
Just go to...
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/wa.exe?SUBED1=gem&A=1
Enter your details and tick "Mail delivery disabled temporarily" (at the
bottom of the page)
When you return visit the page again and untick the box
It's easy and it's the thing to do if you don't want to be the cause of
confusing and annoying messages to other members.
