Alan Roberts at the BA asked me to post this message to the list, due to
technical problems. Actually, I think I have the answer to this one! It was
a MORI poll conducted on behalf of the BMA and can be found at
http://www.guardian.co.uk/Archive/Article/0,4273,4182337,00.html. It seems
to be the same poll announced by MORI in March
(http://www.mori.com/polls/2001/bma2001.shtml). Alun includes some useful
information about a similar poll undertaken in the US.

I'm sure I saw a survey in the papers in the last few days which reported
the results of a poll of public trust in various professions. I can't
remember where and I've just been sent a press release from the California
Academy of Scientists and i wanted to compare them. did anyone see it and
could they point me in the right direction.
for those who are interested, the US (national survey) asked the public
(random telephone dialling) whom they trusted as reliable sources of
information about the environment and the natural world. They answered:
Scientists 64%
Teachers 15%
Reporters 6%
Government officials 3%
Business leaders 3%
The surveys asked a slightly different question but I think a comparison
would be interesting
