A problem with % is that it conflicts with SCCS's
keywords. If you have a program that you are using
under SCCS control, and it has a derived type A with a
field called, say, E, that is also a derived type
with a field called Z, the expression
A%E%Z
will become A01/10/24Z after SCCS replaces %E% with
the date.
This nastiness can be avoided by spelling it
A % E % Z
or not using single letters for names of substructures
in derived types.
