EDUCATION OFFICER
Salary Range: £15,210/18,372
35 hours a week
We are looking for a creative and dynamic person to run the National Museum
of Labour History’s Education Service based, with the galleries and other
visitor services, at the Pump House People’s History Museum in Manchester
city centre.
You will be implementing and developing the museum’s education policy,
which covers a range of activities and events to appeal to visitors of all
ages and abilities. Activities include the use of actor/educators in the
Living History programme developed by Andy Pearce, the previous post holder
now Principal Arts & Heritage Officer for Rochdale Museums Service.
There will be the opportunity to work with colleagues on both museum sites
to encourage access to the collections and archives through exhibitions and
workshops and ICT. There will also be the opportunities provided by the
museum’s plans for the Commonwealth Games Cultural Programme, the
introduction of Citizenship into the National Curriculum and a Heritage
Lottery funded Access project currently being implemented in the main
galleries.
You should have experience of teaching within a museum or gallery, a sound
knowledge of the National Curriculum and an interest in social/political
history. You should have good communication and organisational skills and
a commitment to access in the broadest sense.
