Dear Colleagues,
This morning I received a questionnaire entitled "Landranger map
series review"from the Ordnance Survey. This is to be returned to
Paul Franklin, Publishing Manager at the OS.
The preamble is as follows:
"In order to improve our map prodiucts and ensure that they continue
to meet users' needs we regularly review their design and
specifications: in doing so we try to respond to the concerns of users,
either as individuals or as representative bodies such as Consultative
Committees, as well as members of the trade.
Periodically we undertake a more searching review of a map series and
the 1:50,000 scale Landranger series is about to undergo such a
review. Subject to our commitment to paper-map publishing and
continued high street presence, we are prepared to consider radical
changes if the evidence warrants them.
The review will build on extensive consumer market research carried
out in 1999 but will also take into account feedback gathered using
this paper, which is being distributed to trade representatives and
members of interest groups.
We appreciate you taking the time to help us in this review, the results
of which will be published as a Consultation paper in due course.
Please send your completed form to me in the prepaid envelope
provided by 4 October 20000"
If you have not received this questionnaire you may be able to obtain
one through a telephone call to the OS.
Unfortunately the deadline for responses is before the next round of
Consultative Committee meetings. I hesitate to suggest this but
maybe some of the questions may call for discussion here.
