The MIDS (Modified Issues in Disability Scale) is a scale developed by
Elaine Makas. I have used it in many research projects. It was developed
with extensive participation of people with disabilities. The scores can
be interpreted either as a measure of knowledge about people with
disabilities or as a measure of attitudes (positive and negative) toward
people with disabilities or both. It is a series of statements with the
responses ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree. The assumption
is that a person who is largely ignorant about people with disabilities
will agree with negative attitudes toward people with disabilities.
