If you know a teen with a disability in Hawaii who wants to consider
pursuing a degree in higher education and then a career, direct them to the
following worthwhile opportunity.
March 10-11, 2000
Honolulu, HI
WORKSHOP SUMMARY
High school students in today's world are faced with more options and
greater challenges than ever as they enter the job market or enroll in
higher education courses. For students with disabilities, the future can
hold more uncertainty. This free two-day workshop addresses not only the
needs and concerns of the high school graduate who has a disability, but
will help show them how to achieve a successful college experiences and
make sound career choices. Students, parents and educators are encouraged
to attend. Some of the issues covered include:
o How to prepare for success at a technical college, community college, or
a four-year college/university.
o How to encourage your daughter or son to consider post-secondary
education.
o How to inspire a student with a disability to become interested in a
transition plan that includes more education or training after high
school.
o Where to find information on college programs, support services, and
financial aid.
WORKSHOP GOALS
Students with disabilities who participate in this program will be better
prepared to pursue post-secondary studies and challenging careers. They
will also learn to use the Internet as a resource. Parents and
teachers/counselors will learn how to help students transition to adulthood
and greater responsibility.
To get the most out of this conference, we recommend that a student be
accompanied by a parent, teacher, counselor, or other mentor. If you
have any questions, contact Linda Guess at Easter Seals Hawai'i,
