Whether this is a correct translation from the Hebrew, I am not
competent to say. Jerome was a perfectly competent Hebraist, so I
imagine it is. Tilling the earth is a curse consequent upon Adam's
sin, so whatever the nature of the paradisus, it did not involve any
gardening.
Ask not what modern Catholics call it. Most of us are so ignorant of
the Bible that we wouldn't know whether the Garden of Eden came from
the Book of Genesis or the Book of Mormon. :-)
