Mostyn Lewis in Stained Glass of North Walesclaimed to be puzzled by
Frideswide's presence at Llandyrnog. I would suspect a rector with Oxford
connections but must admit I haven't tracked him down. The cartoon used for
Frideswide is obviously a stock learned-female-martyr cartoon: the same one
is used for Marcella but with a different head.

I'm most intrigued to find Frideswide turning up at Llandyrnog. I knew she
had somehow crossed the Channel & got
attached to a holy well in France but had never heard of her in Wales. I'm
not sure she comes to the forefront of
a list I would make of erudite female saints , she seems almost always to
be associated with healing, even though
she could recite the psalms at the age of four according to the lives (a
trying child). Mind you with the amount
of kissing of persons with hideous skin diseases that she went in for maybe
she deserves the martyrs palm !!
