dear Jaco
in the laboratory of archeozoology at Compiègne, we all agree with you and
terry on the subject of NMI. We use it only in special case.
On the use of bone weight, i want to say that there is also a great probleme
of representation, but perhaps this is what you say .
Bone weight not only trace fragmentation. The selection by the dimension or
resistance before the bones are burried is an important factor. You can have
many ways of sélection. Soils of houses and cellar contains only small bones
(bos and equid exclued). Contrary, ditches witch are distant from
habitations, on rural settlement, fossilize mainly bones of bos and equid.
The pits in the habitat are generaly in intermediate position. It is the
reason why i use average wheight. % of one species is greatly linked whith is
average wheight.
